Fidelio vs chat assistants
A conversation is not an artifact. Fidelio's output is reviewable and gated.
When the alternative wins
For exploration, a chat assistant is genuinely better. When you are trying to understand a library, sketch an approach, or write a function you will read line by line in thirty seconds, the overhead of a plan and a review is pure friction. Chat is the right tool when you are the reviewer and the work is small enough that you can actually be one.
When Fidelio wins
The moment the output is too large to hold in your head, the conversation stops being a safeguard. Fidelio is built for work where nobody is going to read every line: the plan is versioned so intent is auditable, an independent reviewer grades the artifact, and the deploy waits for a person.
Where the two approaches actually diverge.
| Axis | The alternative | Fidelio |
|---|---|---|
| Primary output | Code in a conversation, reconstructed by copy-paste | A versioned plan and a built artifact with a review verdict attached |
| Who checks the work | You, on every change, at whatever attention you have left | An independent reviewer that did not write the code, on every build |
| Record of intent | Scattered through chat history | A versioned plan you can read, revise and diff |
| Path to production | Whatever you do next; nothing is enforced | An explicit human gate on every deploy |
| Failure mode | Plausible code accepted because reviewing it is tiring | A recorded verdict you have to actively override |
Common questions.
- Is Fidelio just a chat assistant with extra steps?
- The extra steps are the product. A chat assistant optimizes for getting an answer quickly; Fidelio optimizes for being able to justify shipping the answer. If you do not need that justification, a chat assistant is the cheaper tool and you should use it.
- Can I still work conversationally?
- You state an intent in plain language, which is conversational. The difference is what happens after: the intent becomes a durable plan rather than a message that scrolls away.

Put an intent in and see what comes back.
Every run produces a plan, a build, an independent review, and a gate you control.
